Taking Action
I got a note from The Universe…
Expectation that’s not followed by action is not expectation… it’s just hoping; and hoping has never achieved very much.
Cool, huh? And pretty timely

I was looking forward to some running action this morning! It was finally warm enough for me to brave the outdoors. I can do 30 degrees and sunny, but I’m a wuss for anything colder. I headed to the trail near my house and got to it.
The mind of a wanna-be runner:
First ten minutes: “Wow, this is hard today.”
End of first mile: “ It’s okay to just do 2 miles. You can even walk if you want. No, don’t walk! You know you can run it; just hang in there.”
Midway through mile 2: “Try to push a little harder. Run faster so you can be done faster!”
End of mile 2: “Hey, you’re almost done! You can do one more mile, it’s not that bad.”
Midway through mile 3: “ Only a little more to go! You’re in such a nice groove now. This is easy!”
Finish at 3.1 miles: “Yeah, baby! See, aren’t you glad you didn’t quit early ?!”
That’s the conversation I have with myself almost every time! I always want to quit, but end up pushing past the feeling. I’m so glad when I finish. My time is getting a little better, too – 35 minutes!
I brought a dashboard breakfast to eat in the car after my run…
Then stopped off for some errands and some ‘bucks. Instead of a latte, I tried out a tall nonfat Caffe Misto – only 1 POINT…
Once home, I cleaned up and made some lunch. Still working on some leftovers, I made a turkey quesadilla using 3 oz. turkey breast, 1 oz. Cabot’s 75% reduced fat cheddar, baby spinach, roasted peppers and a high-fiber tortilla(store brand)…
with a yummy Gala on the side…
Today, I was ready for snack time! Yesterday’s snack was just perfect, so I went for a replay…
I had planned on Sliders and Fries for the husband and daughters for dinner. I wasn’t sure if it would be a good use of my POINTS, so I thought about eating something else. But, the more looked at them, the more I thought that I might want to eat them! So, instead of making something else and then end up nibbling on their dinner (which inevitably happens!), I decided to work them into my day!
I thought about what I really wanted. Those little soft buns seemed to be the most tempting of it all, but the burgers themselves were pretty hefty POINTS-wise (4 pt. for 1 little guy). I had a feeling that I wouldn’t be satisfied with eating just one slider, so I made it work by cutting the burger patty in half cross-wise to make 2 burgers. All so that I could eat those 2 little buns! LOL! I decided to forego having the fries and made a salad with 2 tsp. olive oil and the good balsamic vinegar…
Perfect! And exactly what I wanted, so I wasn’t looking to nosh on anything afterward
GTG – Day 2:
Total: 23 POINTS
Yay!!
I know I said today, but really…giveaway tomorrow!
And before I go, thank you to Margo for a Beautiful Blogger Award!
So nice; I really appreciate it! I’m sending it out to all of you!
Have a great day, everyone!

keep kicking ass and taking numbers
LOVE that quote! I think it’ll be a new mantra of mine
I do the SAME thing when getting through a run (or well, any cardio for that matter LOL). It is always so rewarding when finished though. Way to go!
love your dashboard breakfast! I havent tried that flavor vita but I heard they are MUCH better when warmed up in the package, however as an on the go breakfast I am sure its a good one! good for you making the food fit into your day, if you deprive yourself, you end up CRAVING it, right? awesome job! I am so happy you liked hte pants on the ground haha, its in my head too!
Hey great quote – that SO describes me right now! (actually all my life) – I’ve been hoping for a change but not doing anything much about it. Well, things are gonna change from now on. Thanks for the inspiration!
35 mins is an awesome 5k time! I go thru the same thing when I am out there running. It’s crazy how mental running really is.
Great job working in what you wanted to eat to your day!
That’s an awesome time Marisa! Woot! I have similar conversations with myself when I’m running. I can especially relate to the “you can just walk if you want to – NO!”
Good job on the slider slivers!
yum, i love that turkey quesadilla idea! i bought like 3 pounds of deli turkey from costco that’s probably going to start going bad soon so i’m going to make that!!
love the quote and great job on the run! i do the mental arguing w/ myself all the time!
Id do just about anything for a good bun too–I meant bread…well maybe. lol
Good job on the run! You are amazing!
Marisa,
Every morning I check to see what you have posted. ” You crack me up!” I love the spitting the burgers into two so you can have an extra.. What is a slider if you can’t have more than one right? LOL.. Also, I am amazed you had all of that food for 23 points. GO YOU!
Funny Marisa – I have the same conversation with myself when I go for a run! The beginning is always the hardest for me! 2 mins in I always want to give up! Rediculous!! But wow, great job on the time! I think you are ready for a second 5k!
And great job working those sliders in, cutting the patty in half was genius! Sounds like you are really re-motivated!
I’m so glad to see you in better spirits, and working in the foods you want to eat in a healthy way! Have a great day today
My mind has that very same conversation when running LOL
Haha oh I definitely have that same dialogue all the time! But I’m so much happier when I really push myself. Delicious looking eats!
I used to have that conversation even in yoga! Sometimes I’d leave class early…I couldn’t deal.
BODA weight loss
Love your conversation with yourself! I have them all the time…
Great job taking action!
Happy Weekend!
Way to push through those miles. I get like that when running too, especially in this winter weather. I really want a quesadilla now, turkey sounds great in it too.
Hey Marisa! Just caught up on your posts…I loved how your worked out that dinner so you could have what you want!
I think you show just how we all should eat in real life. I know you’re getting into a serious throwdown with your weight, but you’ve also shown that you can eat delicious, healthy food daily without sacrificing pleasure or taste!
I know you’ll do what you gotta do to get the job done, but I wanted to let you know that you are an inspiration to me, and I think you’re just plain awesome!
Great job, Marisa! I love how you cut the burger in half to make two sliders! Totally sounds like something I would do! And that salad is beautiful, so colorful.
Good for you for getting out and running. You’re doing great. I can’t wait until next month to “hit the trails” and start running again. Wish I could go now, but patience, patience, I know. I have two days of skating come up though so should be able to get some good activity points in there. Running is the best though. Keep it up, girl!
Heyy Just came across your journal and love it! I count points too
I love the wanna be runner, it is SO TRUE!!
[...] Spending 20 POINTS on a burger and fries wasn’t something I could feel good about, so I took action and enjoyed my lunch even [...]
