A Valentine Tea
Hey guys! I’m going to try and make this quick so that I can cuddle up with the hubs who is a hurtin’. Long story short: Old guys cannot sled like they are 12 year olds without breaking a rib. We don’t know for sure yet, but are fairly certain there’s a break or fracture. I would like him to get an x-ray, but he’s not cooperating. And since, I don’t want to add any more injury by beating him upside the head twisting his arm, I’ll let him deal with it as he wishes. I feel badly for him that he’s in so much pain
Anyway, it was a weekend of fun eats ending with my MIL’s Annual Valentine Tea (girls only!). She always goes all out with decorating and lots of nibbles. The table was decked out with lots of heart shapes, doilies and Victorian-inspired decorations…
There was chocolate …everywhere!
I loved my place setting…
I filled my plate with lowfat crustless veggie quiche, lunchmeat roll, spinach dip, carrots, pineapple, cucumber tea sandwich and apple bread…
I chose the pear tea for my beverage…
My MIL made a beautiful, heart-shaped raisin spice cake with cream cheese icing…
She gave me a small slice with a big scoop of this chocolate ice cream…
The tea party was very nice and lasted into the night. For my “dinner”, I had another heart…
And before I left, I grabbed 2 handfuls of peanut butter M & M’s. A totally chocolate dinner!
The hostess…
****
I got back on track Monday morning with a healthy, chocolate-free breakfast of plain nonfat Chobani, 2 drops liquid vanilla NuStevia , blueberries, strawberries and a tbsp. of Special K granola …
I spent the morning on some clean-up and preparing for my lunch guests, Rosemary and her baby, Sammy. The daughters were great with baby Sammy and entertained him while his mommy and I had lunch. I made us Chickpea Salad with a side of baby mixed greens dressed with the good balsamic vinegar and a WW whole wheat pita…
I think I could eat that Chickpea Salad every day! So good!
After our guests left, I tackled some chores and made some homemade gnocchi for the hurtin’ husband for dinner
I snacked on a light string cheese…
and a handful of Wheat Thins (unpictured). And I can’t believe I forgot to get a picture of the homemade gnocchi, too! Doh!
The husband and daughters enjoyed their homemade pasta and I enjoyed my leftover Seafood Jambalaya from our Valentine’s date…
There’s an awful lot of chocolate floating around the house, but I decided to make a healthy treat to indulge in for dessert – Banana Maple Oatmeal Cookies. The recipe comes from Susan over at FatFree Vegan Kitchen. I love that it uses chia seeds and is only 1 POINT per cookie! Of course, I had two (3 POINTS)…
Can you believe it’s snowing again??? I think it’s not going to amount to much, thankfully!
Off to tend to the injured…
Have a great day, everyone!
When was the last time you went sledding???

Wow, that all looks good. Be sure your husband gets to the doctor. Nothing like having a fractured rib which then becomes a “functional sharp point” inside your body. If you fall down or hit it the right way, it can puncture an organ. Better safe than sorry.
Wow, that is such a fun tradition to have! I don’t think that I’ve been to a Valentine’s party since elementary school. Something fun to look forward too in all the dreariness that is Winter.
Hope you’re hubby gets himself checked out soon.
OUCH! Your poor hubby! I have neither sledded nor hosted a party like that in years! What fun…with the exception of the potentially broken rib part!
That is such a cute idea to have a Valentine’s Tea with all the girls.
It looked like fun.
I hope the hubs feels better soon!
What a nice idea – the Valentine’s Tea! Looked like fun!
I think the last time I went sledding I was 4. lol We moved from NY to CA about then. Sad but we never head off to the snow like most people in our area do. I think I just dont want to mess with the traffic to get there. lol
A broken or fractured rib is painful from what I hear! And no real way but rest to help it right? OUCH! Hope your husband heals FAST!
That tea was so nice!! The table looked so pretty! Glad you had a nice time!
Your poor hubby!! Men always think they are invincible.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the Valeninte tea. I want to go!
And, sadly, I’ve never been sledding. Ever. May have to make a road trip to somewhere with snow so I can try it at least once.
OMG I hope your hubby is okay! We’ve been sledding in the backyard for the past week (since the big snow) – it’s sooo much fun (if you don’t get hurt, that is!)
That Valentine’s lunch looks AMAZING!!!! Your mom-in-law is so sweet and has such a great eye for detail!
What a beautiful table ! But WOW- it would be really hard to resist all that yummy food !
Hugs and energies to your hubby ! I stopped sledding in favor of skiing when I was a teen, and lets say that a cocky attitude mixed with daredevil friends and a ski weekend landed me with a broken collar bone. Heal fast !
I went sledding probably about 2-3 years ago with my nephew.
Ouch for the hubby. My dad broke his rib in November when he was helping me move. He fell out of the back of the truck when he was getting out and fell right on his side. He actually didn’t know it was broken but 1 week later was in so much pain that he finally went to the ER and they took x-rays and found it was broken.
Of course, they just gave him vicodin and told him not to lift anything for 6 weeks. So ask your hubby if he wants vicodin. If not, then tell him not to lift anything for 6 weeks!! Poor guy!
That valentines tea is sooo cute!!! LOVE IT
Wow, everything looked so pretty!!! Happy Belated Valentine’s Day!
i LOVE the idea of a Valentines Day Tea–i want to do this next year! and those cookies look delish! love your blog and can’t wait to read more!
wow what a tea!! looks like something I would like to throw for my friends!
sorry to hear about your husband! I’m one of those that would tell him, stop complaining if you don’t want to go to the doctor to get checked out! lol
the Valentine tea looks AWESOME!! how sweet of her!
bummer for the hubby! my hubby & i usually hit the slopes every year. he’s a snowboarder and i’m on the side with my sled and the 12 year olds!!
lol
does your MIL have room for one more next year? that looks like it was the happiest place on earth for the afternoon!
OH no! poor hubs! hopefully it isnt too bad and if it is, he will agree to go to the doctor. i always avoid the doc like the plague and then end up that much worse off. duh!
the v-day tea looks SO cute!!!! what a sweet idea
I’m so excited! I have everything in my kitchen to make that chick pea salad. I am soooo going to make that for lunch tomorrow.
I have a question for you though: do you have to pay to use calorieking to calculate your recipes NI? I’ve been using NutritionData.com but it’s a bit cumbersome. Upside is that it is free. I’m thinking calorieking might be better.

I’m all about the free! Nope, no charge to use calorie king
Oh PS: sorry about the hubster! Sledding can be considered an extreme sport! Hope he feels better soon.
Ouch! Poor hubby. He should suck it up and have it checked out. My FIL broke a bunch of ribs last year and all they do is wrap it and give pain meds.
The tea looks lovely. That is quite a spread of yummy food. I’m not sure I could have resisted eating way too much.
The last time I was on a real kiddie sled was probably about 20 years ago on New Year’s Eve. A bunch of us went out and sledded for hours and we were really sore the next day.
These days I do all my sledding on my snowmobile. I still get sore from riding my snowmobile but it is totally worth it.
Hope hubby feels better soon.
That tea party looks so fun!
what a great time…now i want to go to a tea party! i’m going to have to try out your chickpea salad… looks so healthy and fresh.
I love tea parties! They’re always so classy. I wish they were popular. Everytime I try to plan one for my friends, they look at me like I have 3 heads.
I went sledding last winter. It was actually the day before I found out I was pregnant.
I just found your blog and I love it! I’ll be stopping by all the time now. Valentine’s Tea, how awesome is that!?!
