Loser for Life

The Life And Times Of Blogging

Hey, everyone!  Did you like the guest post from my friend, Jenn?  She is the coolest!  I hope to be able to do a handstand like that one day and have those smokin’ guns!  See what wonderful things yoga can do for your body?!

So, I had plans to take a little blogging break.  Not because I’m in a superfunk or anything like that.  Thankfully!  Food-wise I’ve been doing okay.  I’ve been a little extra snacky in the afternoon, as usual, but I’ve been able to reel it in better every day.  Taking away the guilt factor has really helped.  At the end of every day, I focus on each good choice I have made throughout the day.  It’s almost like making a “pros and cons” list.  What I’m noticing is that my good choices far outweigh the bad choices.  But, isn’t it funny how when we overeat a bit at one meal, that one meal becomes the whole day!  We only focus on how badly we ate at that one meal and completely disregard all the good things we ate during the day!

I keep reminding myself:  EVERY GOOD CHOICE COUNTS.  I keep saying it throughout the day.  And it’s true.  Every good choice that we make throughout the day does count for something.  It all counts toward good health and eventually, stringing together many good choices can result in weight loss, too!  Here’s hoping :)

Sorry, I digress…

Anyway, the reason for the plans of a blogging break is two-fold:

  1. Time
  2. Life

Time…yeah.  Can I order more of it?  I’ll pay extra.  Really.

Seriously, I’ve realized that I suck at time management lately.  Blogging takes up a lot of my time and I truly do love it.  I love reviewing my day through food and I love reading blogs.  What I do not love is the time vacuum involved with it all.  I’ll get started on a post or reading and suddenly, it’s 2 hours later.  I’m feeling like I’m not getting done what I’m supposed to in my day and I want to try to get better at that.

Life…yeah.  We gotta live it, ya know?  I’m kinda shirking my responsibilities around here mainly because of  number 1.  Hence, my house is looking like something resembling a hang-out for farm animals.  Back to time management…I want to get better at that :)

Also, I’ve been wanting to update the blog.  I never quite finished that when I switched to my new domain and it’s really bugging me!  I did get a chance to update my blogroll! ————->>>>>
I think I got everybody, but if I missed you, please send me a reminder!

I do have another vlog that I recorded that answers one of the questions I get asked most frequently.  I’ll be posting that this week and will hopefully get working on my FAQs page, too.

So, I guess what I’m thinking of is not so much of a break, but more of a sporadic posting schedule until I get things in order around this joint!  I just wanted to let you all know before I start getting lots of emails wondering if I’ve fallen of the wagon and into the superfunk, again!  (Which I did very much appreciate, by the way – thanks for keeping a check on me!)  All’s well!

Have a great day, everyone!

A special shout-out and good luck to Diane, Lori and Jenelle on your taping for The Dr. OZ Show today!!!  So excited for you all and puh-lease remember to tell him I love him and want him to be my boyfriend!!!  The husband said it’s okay;)

Q:  How many hours per week do you spend blogging/reading blogs?

We all need a bloggie break sometimes!

I’ve been in a bit of a funk lately too! I thinks its the weather. Winter and I don’t mesh very well.

Okay… I’m vowing to stay positive :)
Have a great day!

Blogging does take time doesn’t it? When it isn’t fun anymore or it impacts too much time from your work, family, friends, etc….it’s time to step back and reevaluate. I can appreciate this one, M!

I so know what you mean by blogging taking a lot (too much) time… I love reading blogs and writing blog posts, but, like you, I have found that it can easily take over my life. And yes, my house could use some of my attention, too…

I hope you’ll find a schedule that works for you and your life! :)

And, great point about every good choice counting! So true!

I spend way more than I’d like to admit blogging. I just started mine in the past few months and it is addictive. Plus, I am learning so much everyday I just want to play around and make it better! As people comment or insert links to good blogs, my “want to read” list grows and grows. So many good blogs out there, so little time! Find what works for you and remember quality over quantity :)

Girl I hear ya… I think you will enjoy more sporadic posting because when you do have the time you will enjoy it more…. like you said you love it now, but feel like you are missing some other things… I am right there with you. I feel blogging keeps me on track and gives me so much more knowledge (by reading other blogs) to keep me on a “healthy track”
I must say you have always inspired me, and I LOVE your posts, but understand becauseI am in the same situation…. I will love the suprise of a post by you- it will be a little suprise to look forward to! Thanks for all you do and I can’t wait to hear from you again! (after ya clean the barn– LOL)!

Oh, I SO understand where you’re coming from. I work at home and blogging definitely gets in the way of my paycheck sometimes. I only post once a week usually, but love checking in every morning to read all the blogs, and sometimes, I’m at that for two hours without thinking about it!

Will look forward to your posts. Remember that I’m thinking of you always and look forward to hearing from you.

HUGS!

I think it’s SO important to do what is right for you and your family. I commend you for doing that.

I honestly spend probably 3-5 hours per day reading blogs/writing blogs/twittering. It’s gonna have to go WAY down once my nursing school starts. That’s ok though. It’s all abt. balance.

If you’re hanging out for a guest post..I’d be more than happy to crank something out :)

Take care of you and your family :-)

I have spent way too much time blogging and reading blogs. Doing reviews & giveaways consumes so much time and I’m on burn out mode. We’re looking at 2 to 3 hours per R & G. And to think there are some moms out there that easily do 2 or 3 a day? Umm, no thanks!! I need to finish up the R & G I started and take a break. I love doing my daily pictures now and blogging about my weight loss. I will continue to do that.

Too many hours! And it is so frustrating how much work interferes with blogging I tell you!

I wonder how so many great bloggers seem to handle it so easily when I am always stressed because I don’t post often enough.

How great that you are able to put into a real perspective for yourself.

You’re the best, Marisa. And trust me everyone, her home resembles nothing close to a haven for farm animals! But she is clever with words. Haha!

I spend way too much time blogging and reading other blogs (like I’m doing right now! LOL :) ) But it keeps me on track and usually gives me some new ideas.

As long as you aren’t “slipping” I guess we’ll allow you to post sporadically. LOL I know how easy it is to let things slide at home. There just isn’t enough time in the day.

Post when you can. I love reading your daily happenings. :)

Every good choice counts – great point. I tend to zero in + dwell on bad choices but ignore celebrating the good choices – thank you for that! I’d say i’d average one hour a day. Some days I don’t have time to read or write so I play catch up on other days! Since i’m in front of a computer all day, I tend to write as I go/as I track and that makes it easier!

13 tj { 02.10.10 at 10:48 am }

I wake up and read blogs(plus comment) ….then again in the afternoon. Then I have to post to my blog at some point…yeah it can get a bit time consuming. Some days I skip it all just to catch up with daily stuff. :)

14 Laura Jane { 02.10.10 at 12:30 pm }

Yes, blogging and blog reading can take up a lot of time! Sometimes I sit down to write a quick post about my day and before I know it I’ve written a long post about my day and gone into a long discussion about my struggles, read a ton of other blogs, left lots of comments, and it’s two hours later! I am trying to manage my time well. One of the things I do is mostly read other blogs on the weekends. I will still do a quick post to my blog most days, but I won’t allow myself to even look at another blog. Because if I start reading it will never end. And I don’t worry if I don’t end up getting all the posts by a favorite blogger read. I’ll just periodically clear out my entire Google Reader.

15 Katie { 02.10.10 at 12:38 pm }

I totally understand. Writing is time consuming, but it’s worse when I’m reading. Catching up on my reader, following links to new blogs and commenting can all make the time fly by!

16 Brenda { 02.10.10 at 1:02 pm }

I totally understand what you mean! I sit down for 15 minutes to read a few favs and next thing I know it’s 2 hours later! And I feel guilty if I skip a day posting to catch up on house and life…I need to get over that feeling.
Loved your guest post yesterday!!

Marrissa,

I just found your blog and I love it! I can’t wait to read more. Congrats on the weight loss! You look great.

18 connie b { 02.10.10 at 1:37 pm }

Marisa, I totally feel you on the time management. Blogging takes SO much of my time every day, and I find myself blogging less and having to play catch up a lot! Anyways, when you decide to blog, we are here for you!!

19 Emily { 02.10.10 at 2:30 pm }

Good luck getting your house back into order! I spend way too much time on blog related activities.

20 Amanda { 02.10.10 at 5:29 pm }

Since I don’t have a blog, I don’t spend much time. I read yours and one other on a regular basis.

I’m going to miss your daily blog! I love it! But of course, I certainly understand your reason! You have to do what you have to do. I’ll check in periodically.

21 Naomi (onefitfoodie) { 02.10.10 at 5:48 pm }

ah blogging can take up so much time! you just need to find a healthy balance! I never let it interfere with my life (too much ;)

22 Jen, a priorfatgirl { 02.10.10 at 8:50 pm }

ah, life/blog balance is DIFFICULT! I’m setting no example – blogging takes up 30 hours a week for me :(

23 Tami @nutmegnotebook.com { 02.11.10 at 9:26 am }

Thank you for sharing this. Being a new blogger I have been shocked at how much time it takes! I thought it was just because I am new at it but I am spending easily 3-4 hours a day writing for my blog, taking pictures of recipes, reading other blogs and trying to post on them. It can be overwhelming. I will miss your daily posts but I completely understand the struggle with trying to find the right balance and do all the things you want to do. I am trying to figure that out myself.

24 Shh { 02.11.10 at 10:29 pm }

I has a sad that I’m not on your blogroll. :(

25 Miz { 02.12.10 at 5:47 am }
