I Can Do Anything
Hi, All! Glad you liked my Amazing Grass story! The husband is extra leery of any food I make now! LOL! I’m proud to announce that I have not touched any of the artery cloggers that he has brought into the house. It’s been hard, but I know it would just start a downward spiral that I don’t want to participate in
So, I have something really exciting to share. The weather was great this morning and I was tempted to go for an outdoor run. I was supposed to head to the gym to meet up with my friend, Coleen, but she wasn’t feeling well and texted me that she was staying home, so I decided to do the run. I went to the trail I like and set out for the run. The first 1/2 mile kinda sucked it. I had a wicked headache and quite honestly, I was in a pissy mood. I had planned on doing the Galloway Method, but after getting over that first 1/2 mile, my breathing was in a good pattern and my legs felt good, so I just kept going. After the second mile, I decided to try to go for 4 miles. I gave myself permission to stop and take a walk break at any time I felt like I needed it, but my legs continued to feel good, so I kept going. When I headed into the 4th mile, I knew I could do it! And as I neared the end of the 4th mile, I thought ‘maybe I’ll try for 5 miles’.
Guess what?…
I FREAKING DID IT!!!
I still can’t believe it! I’m in shock. I’ve done my fair share of struggling with 3.1 miles, so making it to 5 miles is unbelievable to me! I should be pissy more often!
When I finished the run, I have to say that I cried a little. I looked around at the trail and just starting thinking about how far I’ve come in this weight loss/healthy lifestyle journey. A little more than 2 1/2 years ago, I was 234 pounds and barely liked to walk. I can’t believe that I have lost 65 pounds and can RUN 5 MILES! As some tears fell, I came to the realization that I can do anything that I set my mind to. I have been the only one standing in my way. I sabotage myself. And if I stop that, I can do anything.
Be back tomorrow with some eats!
Have a great day, everyone!
What have you done lately that made you feel proud?

I am so thrilled for you….I repeat this saying all the time: the body can only achieve what the mind believes. I believe 100% that running gives and restores confidence. This day was a breakthrough for you. You can flash back to this day when times get tough and remember how tough you are. Girl you are only 1.2 miles away from a 10k! You know what that means right? Can’t stop now superwoman!
Two things – did more than my personal walking challenge for the day and NOT killed my neighbors ! HUGE CONGRATS on your run – and you are absolutely right . We can do ANYTHING we set our minds to!
THAT IS FLIPPING FABULOUS! Thanks for the inspiration. Today I will push myself further…thanks to you!
Marisa, just wanted to say YOU ARE AMAZING! And thanks for the inspiration this morning. Hasn’t been a good few days. Hubby very sick, I am too (although he’s REALLY sick), and that always leads me down the wrong road. Last night, we took the “pizza road” which was NOT GOOD. But after reading your post, I am again ready to get on the right path. Wish I could run in this beautiful weather, but don’t think that’s a good idea yet. Maybe after another day on the Z-pack. Just hoping that hubby starts feeling better so I can get some sleep!
Again, that’s awesome how far you’ve come. Well, looks like you’re ready for a 10K! Let me know if you find one close to both of us.
Seriously, you are an amazing lady! 5 miles=Awesome!
Bravo! Sometimes our only limitations are those our mind sets for us.
You indeed have come far!
Awesome job!! You CAN do anything!!
This is so amazing, you’re totally my hero for this! I can’t wait to be able to run five miles. Well, I can’t wait to be able to run ONE mile… but still, this is awesome.
Congrats – you are such an inspiration. Thank you for sharing that, makes me want to run right now!!
Marisa!!
That is so AWESOME!!! And – YES! – YOU can do anything!!!
Rock on!!!
Good for you! I wish I could run but after having 3 kids my bladder won’t let me! Be Proud!
That is so amazing! Congratulations to you! What an inspiring story. You’re right, we are often our own worst enemy. Sometimes we just have to get out of our own way and do what we set out to do!
Amazing job!
awww I am so proud of you for pushing through and going 5 miles! You are amazing and YES, you can do ANYTHING! Yipeeee!
Marisa – your post made ME want to cry! lol. 5 miles is awesome!
People that know I’ve lost 86 lbs keep asking me if I’m proud of myself. And yes, that’s what makes me the most proud is that I never quit, even though it’s been a struggle to lost much weight the last year or more. That’s what I’m most proud of, that I didn’t quit!
Congrats again.
I’m so proud of you!!! What a great feeling. It seems to me that a lot of what we think we can’t do is only mental. We have the ability once we overcome mental hurdles.
Congrats on a fantastic run. Hmmmm…..do I see a 10K in your future? The magic 8 ball says “outcome favorable.”
Congratulations!!! All that work pays off.
Congrats and a big High Five to you!!!! That is awesome! I hope to be there some day soon too.
I’m into my 2nd week of the galloway method and a little confused about my sunday mile run….I do a mile in about 11 minutes now, so do I just run 11 minutes on sunday? I felt odd so I ran (and some walk) my mile then hiked for about 20 minutes.
You have to do some 5ks (maybe 10ks) this spring..I bet you will be passing most of the runners in them…..You Go Girl!!
Wonderful job!!! 5 miles is a great accomplishment (actually there was an article in this months Runners World about it!). You deserve to be so proud!
Woohoo!!That’s fabulous:-)cc
Marisa, What an accomplishment sister! 5 miles! What is most amazing to me is your stick to it ness (not sure how to spell that) these past 2 1/2 years. Even with a headache today you kept going. You’ve managed to work into your busy schedule as mommy & wife time to exercise which is always my excuse for not exercising. I celebrate those tears of joy with you!!
Linny
I wish blogs had the Facebook button that says “I like this” with a thumbs up – I’d totally be taking advantage of that with this post.
Awesome, awesome job. Huge congrats to you. I love tears of pride and happiness!
i love that picture!!! 5 miles…you rock!!!!!
isn’t it amazing what you can do once you realize how strong you really are!! congrats on the run….and your amazing progress!!
Congratulations to you! I’m in awe – isn’t it amazing how far we can push ourselves if we really want it?
Next thing you know you’ll be signing up for a half….
awesome!
I did 5 miles on Sunday and felt totally victorious. Like you my goal was 4, but I rocked out 5 and it was awesome!
Good for you. WOO HOO!
Your rock!!!! I really don’t have anything that compares to your 5 miles, but I took 2 exercise classes over the weekend, and I’m proud that I pushed myself to do it.
The first 1/2 miles of my runs suck ass too – then something happens and I just do it!
SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!!!!!!! I agree with you 100% – I don’t know why it is we think to blame others around us for how we became, when we were the problem the whole time!
Hugs!
Love this post! Never been to your site before….your enthusiasm is contagious! I ran a rocking 5 K on Sunday—-it was awesome; )
Oh Marisa, I’m getting a bit choked up just reading this post! That is just incredible – congrats, woman!!! What an accomplishment!
I am so proud of you! I commented on your blog awhile ago with a link to my cooking blog (http://stephaniecooks.blogspot.com) but after reading your blog (and I read like, the whole thing lol) I started a fitness blog too (http://stephanieinspired.blogspot.com). This weekend I made myself proud- I rode my bike 23 miles!! I was shocked and I too cried at the end. Keep it up- you inspire me!
Very inspirational! I hope to be in your shoes soon, I have a long road ahead of me.
Congrats! That is so exciting. Every time I run a new farthest distance, I get a little warm and mushy inside too
So much of it is a mental battle. Keep up the awesome work!
OH MY. This is so cool. I am sooooo friggin happy for you. 5 miles is stellar. Simply stellar. Way to go Marisa. You are awesome.
Wow! Just awesome.
This is what I’m taking with me: “I came to the realization that I can do anything that I set my mind to. I have been the only one standing in my way. I sabotage myself. And if I stop that, I can do anything”. I believe this, I just have to start living it.
YOU ROCK!!!
I love the self portrait, Woman and look forward to running with you in a little over a week!
That is awesome Marisa! Such an inspiration!
[...] Marisa Thank you for the nice comments about my 5 mile run! I am still in disbelief that I was able to do it and what’s more unbelievable is that I [...]
Congratulations! What a great feeling to accomplish something you didn’t know you could do!
Awww. You got me teary-eyed too. I’m so proud of what you’ve accomplished! It’s always a matter of mind over body. What you believe you are capable of and the limitations that bring you down.
I’m so proud of myself for running 4k straight. Then another 3.75 k straight. Two weeks ago, I was just running 2k.
