The Quest
Thanks for the nice comments about my mom jean dilemma! It was rough, I tell ya! But, I didn’t want to let one bad shopping trip deter me. I decided this morning that I would give it a go again. I was on a quest to find some jeans!
I needed some sustenance for the grueling shopping ahead. A strawberry Chobani and slice of whole wheat soda bread was a good start…
Then, a cup of joe and I was ready to go! See…don’t I look happy and excited to try to stuff my butt into a bunch of jeans?!
First stop was GAP. I haven’t been in a GAP in a really long time. During the plus -size years, nothing ever fit me in that store, so I pretty much avoided it unless I was shopping for someone else.
I grabbed a couple of different pairs and headed, with high hopes, to the dressing room. This one was nice … in an insane asylum kinda way
I was excited and ready to say buh-bye to the mom jeans…
I grabbed the first pair to try on…
Holy price tag!
But, if they looked good, I would gladly pay.
They did not look good. Toooo tight…
And toooo long…
The next size up didn’t fit right either. Okay, so I’m definitely not Long and Lean. Maybe, they have Stumpy and Pudgy ?
I looked. Nope. But, they did have this…
Those were a no-go, too. I stayed strong and as any good warrior would do, I persevered. On to the next store!
I hit up Kohl’s next. They usually have a pretty decent selection of stuff. I looked around and saw nothing. Why does that always happen when you’re looking for something?!
I managed to find one pair of jeans that I thought were okay, so I headed to the dressing room with “my size” in tow. Zipped up and didn’t need to stuff the butt in. Cool! Then, I realized that if I didn’t have my granny panties on, you can see right to where the sun don’t shine…
The pouty boo-boo lip was resurfacing…
I tried the mall next and hit up a variety of stores. It was the same old – same old in every store. I decided to try on pants instead of jeans and thought Ann Taylor might be the ticket! These were meant for me, right?!
Wrong.
I finally lost it in Macy’s and yelled out in desperation to Clinton for help…
He didn’t answer and at that moment, my camera battery died. It was a sign
With my head hanging low and my boo-boo lip sticking out, I went home empty handed. *Sigh*
Although, I should never eat again, I was pretty hungry when I got home. The first thing I saw was yogurt. I know…again! I made a big yogurt bowl with plain nonfat Chobani, 4 drops liquid vanilla NuStevia , blueberries and a kiwi…
Later, I had some pretzels to hold me over until dinner.
I wanted to use up the leftovers in the fridge before leaving for FitBloggin , so I heated up last night’s pasta and broccoli for dinner…
Very delicious!
****
Well, I’m off to pack for FitBloggin! I hope to be able to blog while I’m there, but if not, I’ll be back on Sunday with a recap for you all!
I’ll be sportin’ my mom jeans while I’m there
…
Have a great weekend, everyone!

I’ve never found a pair of jeans off the rack that I haven’t had to alter. They are always too long and they always need to be adjusted at the waist. It’s a curse.
LOL ! I always yell for Clinton ! Or Carson Kresley . Every time I go shopping for clothes I feel like one of those old ladies in Vegas who wanders around from machine to machine with a cup of nickles, looking puzzled at the choices. I never have any clue as to what I am looking for !
i have problems finding jeans also. after 4 kids, my butt and hips are NOT the same. after loosing some weight, my favorite jeans are the maurices brand from maurices. they run @ $30 each. they usually have about 6-8 styles. from low rise, super low, regular waist etc. flair, boot cut. they have a pair on display of each style and tell you how they fit “uper low rise, relaxed thru hips/waist, boot cut”, whatever on the sign by the jeans. anywho. i LOVE how they fit me, as a mom also who hates mom jeans! and i <3 how they do their sizing. i can wear a a great number size! WOOT! keeps me coming back knowing what size i wear. i the last 4 months i think i've bought 5 pairs! the most i've bought in 10 years! good luck on your shopping! have a great time at fitbloggin'!!!!
You make me laugh!
And – so sorry! Jeans are the worst!!!
I feel your pain, sister. Shopping for jeans is brutal. I would’ve skipped the yogurt and gone straight for a Jack & Diet when I got home! When I was a track star I always had to get men’s jeans (501s) because my “hamstrings” were too big. When I put on weight, I avoided jeans because my “thighs” were too big. I’m 5′9″ and I’ve given up on finding jeans the right length, but Old Navy comes close. (And guess where I find jeans for my daughter, mini-me? Same body type.) You’ll find a store that makes the right cut for you one of these days. And then you’ll never shop anywhere else. Just keep smiling.
Hey Marisa I was LOL at you jeans shopping trip! I recently had to go jeans shopping and it took me 3 days to find one pair of modern jeans that fit.
I found Levis 512 perfectly Slimming Boot Cut and they were daughter approved – she makes sure I don’t buy “mom” jeans anymore.
By the way you look adorable! Have fun at Fit Bloggin.
Have you checked JC Penney for jeans? I always hit the jackpot there and I am more curvy on the bottom so I can never find a good fit. They have several different brands (including levi’s), and they always fit awesome!
Fashion Bug carries “Right Fit” pants and jeans–they let you pick a cut (eg: trouser, bootcut, flare, classic) AND a shape that will fit your body. For example, my waist is disproportionate to my thighs, so with traditional pants/jeans, I have to buy a size that fits my thighs which ends up leaving a huge gap at the waist (like your granny panty flashing situation above).
Try the Melrose–it sits at the waist, so no mom-jean status and has a slight boot cut–or the Rodeo, which sits below the waist.
Oh Marisa! You are so funny! I wonder if the sales assoc. knew you were taking pics in the dressing room, what would they say! lol
Sorry about the jeans shopping. yes, it’s hard, I know. I have issues too. There are a pair of jeans at JC Penny named “Amanda” and I thought that was a sign too, but alas, those were a no go!
Good luck hunting for jeans. I only have 1 pair right now, which is ok b/c I wear dress pants to work anyway during the week.
Oh and good luck with your run! I’m excited to hear about it!
hahahaha you have the best sense of humor ever! i loved reading through the options and i cant believe they had one with YOUR NAME ON THEM.. literally! too bad they didnt work! i bet the designer pronounces it “maRISSa” anyway
JEALOUS of fitbloggin. have fun!
You crack me up! Have a great weekend!
Ouch. I can’t tell you how many times i’ve had a shopping trip like THAT. Especially with the whole ‘jeans covering the feet’ too long thing. Don’t lose hope! BTW, that pasta looked delicious.
I feel your pain and I applaud you for stickin with the program. You WILL succeed!
It is SO HARD to find the right pair of jeans, but, when you do, buy A LOT! Did you by chance try express? The Curvy jeans at Express are about the ONLY jeans I found that worked for me.
I LOVED seeing the pics as you tried everything on – fun! Have fun at fit bloggin’ – I can’t wait to hear all about it!
Danica
Why is it when you can’t buy anything you see everything you want, and when you really can buy something you can’t find anything?!
Marisa – my brother Charlie is speaking at Fitbloggin – say hi to him if you see him for me!
I imagine there won’t be a lot of men in attendance but you never know!
Im tellin ya the Levi’s curvy boot cuts WORK! TRY THEM!
HAVE FUN at fitbloggin!!! Tell us all about it!
I’ll be looking for your mom jeans. I’ll be the giantess joggunning with glasses and bad hair.
Your yogurt looks so good! I’m going to stock up on frozen fruits this week …. going to start eating more yogurt too.
jeans shopping drives me bananas!!!
Sorry to hear about the jean shopping drama – have you tried Old Navy yet? Their Sweetheart jeans have been just the ticket for me!
