The Magic Trick

I was looking forward to breakfast this morning!  And I got it ready last night!  We have all heard of overnight oats, right?  Well, I’m not a huge fan of oats but you know I love my yogurt bowls for breakfast so, I made an Overnight Yogurt Bowl instead.

Here’s what you’ll need…

  • frozen fruit of your choice
  • plain nonfat greek yogurt

That’s it!  What makes this special is that the frozen fruit thaws in the refrigerator overnight and releases all its juices into the yogurt.

It goes from this…

To this…

IMG_5652

It’s magic ;)   You can add a bit of sweetener if you like, but if your fruit is sweet enough the juice flavors the plain yogurt for you…

Now you don’t have to worry about having fresh fruit to top your yogurt;  use frozen!

After that filling bowl, I headed to the gym for 35 minute backpedaling on the elliptical and 15 minutes of weights.  Git ‘r done.

Lunch was a picnic.  In the house.  Complete with Applegate Farms organic uncured beef hot dogs on an Ezekiel hot dog bun

and the last of Lauren’s delicious Creamy Potato Salad

I had a sweet snack attack in the afternoon.  I kept it from getting too crazy, though.  Just a date with some drippy almond butter x2…

Dinner was an interesting experiment.  Or trick.  However, you like to look at it!  I told the family we were having “Chicken Finger Parm.”  There were hoots and hollers.  They were happy and loved me lots.

It made me feel badly for a moment because this dinner was a farce.  A decoy.  An exercise in tomfoolery mainly for my own enjoyment.

There was no chicken to be had in this dish.  It was unchicken

Made from soy protein, grains and many more ingredients than I would like, but I decided to give them a try anyway…

IMG_5665

Gardein makes some pretty grand claims…

IMG_5664

Well, we will see about that ;)

I baked them until golden…

IMG_5669

Then put on the disguise

IMG_5671

and plated it up with a beautiful distraction…

IMG_5677

I waited with bated breath for them to take the first bite…

IMG_5681

They gobbled it down.  There was no complaining, no crying, no begging or bribing.

My work here is done. ;)

Have a great day, everyone!

You are adorable! I love your overnight yogurt idea…lol!

I try to mix in a vegetable into just about everything I make and my niece and nephews never know the difference.

Ha! I trick my husband into eating things ALL the time – in particular, coconut and ricotta cheese. :)

What a great breakfast idea! I love it!

Great idea with the overnight oats. I’m going to have to try that. I’ve been using lots of frozen fruit lately since I keep ending up throwing away the fresh stuff because it goes bad before I get the chance to finish it.

I made a chicken/veggie stir fry last night and my bf caught me putting garlic in it. He always says he hates garlic but loves the taste of everything I cook with it. He’s as bad as the kids.

You bet ! Black bean brownies, guacamole that included peas, bean meatballs- mu husband says he hates beans , I say he is eating with his eyes. I have taken numerous veggies, cooked and pureed them to add to spaghetti sauce and fed it to my son. Afterwords I tell them what is in there and often they become converts. I call it survival skills !

Love the sneaky trick! I am happy that my husband isn’t a picky eater and starting my daughter out on different things while she was young will hopefully help my journey when she is older. I give you props for sticking to your journey even if your family isn’t on the exact same one. Way to go!!!

Your overnight yogurt bowl sounds yummy! I wish I had something waiting for me in the fridge right now… :)

I found out awhile ago that my mom did sneak little things into stuff, like mushrooms into sauces, but she would have to put them through the food processor… my brother hated tri-colored pasta, swore up and down it was different… lol Moms can be SO sneaky!

Trick someone???? With my family it’s the only way I can change their minds about food. They are 3rd and 4th gereration picky eaters. I hide everything in everything and after they rave about it I tell them what they ate and then usually I am allowed to make it again. When peoeple see how picky they are they have no clue how my family doesn’t make me lose my mind.

LOL! You are tricky!

I think what they don’t know won’t hurt them! I have used Boca crumbles or ground turkey and not told anyone, let them think it is ground beef!
My dad claims he does not like ground turkey but I have made chili with it and he raves about my chili. Go figure!

Hahah, I love the tricky chicken dinner. The only thing I do is add a ton of extra veggies into every meal I can. But I’m not really tricking anyone since my husband loves veggies anyway. It just makes me feel better.

The one thing he won’t eat is tofu and he has discussed with me many times how not funny it would be if I tricked him into eating it. He’s just paranoid…

Oh the date with nut butter – my favorite!!

I have never tricked, but I have cajoled LOL.

Good call the fruit totally sweetens the yogurt, but way better overnight! Hadn’t considered that, thanks.

I told my kids we were having “healthy chicken parm” the other night, meaning, no frying AND we didn’t have any tomato sauce. I botched that one, and opted for a curry chicken sauce (Trader Joe’s). It went over well. Must try the overnight thing! I had the morning version today.

I think you should start marketing the “loseitz”….perhaps they would be cheese flavored carrot bitz that you eat to LOSE IT!!
