A Protein Fix
Confirmed. It’s a bulls- eye rash indicative of Lyme disease. Little daughter will be fine. Just has to guzzle this for the next 30 days…
Thankfully, she doesn’t upchuck this medicine. Yay
Glad we were able to catch it early on, though. I have a few friends who had very serious health issues due to undetected Lyme disease. It can be scary!
So the day started off with worry and a trip to the gym. I changed up my routine just a little – 30 minute express circuit workout, then 25 minutes on the Arc Trainer. Basically, I flip-flopped it. I pushed hard on the Arc Trainer today. It’s so fun! <—-weirdo
I fixed up a yummy breakfast of press and an Ezekiel cinnamon raisin english muffin with almond butter goodness…
The daughters and I spent most of the morning getting our summer reading schedule going. Big daughter aced a advanced reading test at school, then we headed to the library to stock up on more material. I get so excited to hang out in libraries and book stores! Could I be a bigger dork?!
We rushed home for lunch because little daughter was “hand-on-forehead- eyes-rolling- back- moaning-and-complaining” starrrrrrving. She is not at all dramatic.
I made everyone lunch in a nanosecond and just did a heat-and-eat for myself…
Leftovers! I mixed the white bean salad with the remaining whole wheat orzo. So tasty and fiberlicious
I picked up something new for me to try as an afternoon snack – Jay Robb Whey Protein…
Now, I’m not a big fan of protein powders. First, I much prefer to eat food instead of drink. Second, many of the protein powders that I’ve seen have so much junk in them – artificial flavors, sweeteners and additives- that I’d rather have real food. But, I saw this in the vitamin store the other day and noticed that the ingredients are fairly decent. Also, there is no added sugar, however it is sweetened with stevia.
The nutritional facts were pretty good…
I gave it a whirl with some water and frozen strawberries…
It wasn’t bad! There was a tinge of aftertaste that comes with most protein powders, in my opinion, but it wasn’t chalky or gritty. I would try this again (however, it is PRICEY – one packet cost me $2.50!) maybe with nonfat milk next time. I just might become a protein shake convert!
Dinner was more leftovers…
- grilled shrimp
- white bean salad
- diced grilled zucchini
all on top of my favorite salad- tomatoes, cucumber, red onion and avocado! Please don’t get tired of seeing this salad because I have a bazillion tomatoes and cucs exploding in my garden right now and I will be making it a lot!
I love cold, no-cook leftovers on a hot and muggy night!
I think some Chocolate Banana “Ice Cream” may be calling me!
Have a great day, everyone!
Do you use protein powders?

That is scary! I have heard about undiagnosed Lyme disease, too. Glad she is going to be ok!
I like protein powder but have kinda been getting over it lately! My favorite is BSN though.
I hope your little one is ok…what a way to kick off Summer!
I use protein powder…it’s a staple in my home. I’ve tried Jay Robb’s…it’s great…made with stevia and not artificial sugars which I’m learning to appreciate.
Hope your wee one gets better real soon.
Marisa, Thank Goodness you caught that rash early! Yeah!
Your salads look SOOO good, and the shrimp, OMG!
By the way, love the little green dish that you have your english muffin on!
Yay for amoxicillin!!!! I am not a fan of protein powders, but I’ve heard of the one you tried and it seems to be pretty popular. Love your salads

I may occasionally mix protein powder into a Green Monster, but rarely. I’m just not a big fan. :/
I’m so glad little daughter is going to be ok! Good thing you caught it early!
Yes I use PP in my spinach smoothies. I find I need the extra protein. I tend not to get enough.
I am glad your daughter will be OK. I have a huge fear of my children getting tick bites or poison oak when we hike.
Glad you found the bulls-eye early! One of the bad things about summer, the bug-borne diseases.
I am all over protein powders. I have trouble getting in enough protein for my needs in a day (I shoot for at least 100 g) just with food alone.
I actually preferr unflavored whey isolate, as it can be mixed into all kinds of things and not tasted. Plus I don’t have to have 5 pounds of orange cream flavor sitting around. I add my own flavor drops (Capella) plus stevia to get the sweetness I want, since most presweetened powders are too sweet for me.
Jay Robb is a good brand, though – but too spendy!
Your poor daughter! That is scary. Ticks are bad this year. I had one in my back a few weeks ago. I didn’t even know except it was itchy and Chuck spotted it! Yikes. Please be careful. (which I know you are)
I love Jay Robb. I get the chocolate one and blend it with a banana, ice and almond milk and wee bit of sweetener. Yum!
Oh man, that sucks. I’m glad you caught it early! Do you live in a wooded area???
Oh no! Summer just started and the kids are getting cooties??!!! lol So glad that was detected early- you are right Lyme disease can be scary if not detected soon enough!
I use a protein powder in the summer when I feel like I dont want to eat anything-cuz of the heat- so I make smoothies. Metabolic Reset is the brand and I have the vanilla flavor. It’s good…and I like 1/2 frozen banana in it with a few frozen strawberries, and a GIANT handful of spinach. YUM!
Glad you found it early and that she’ll be ok. That is scary!
I got every thing in the mail today! It came with tons of recipes! can’t wait to try it out!
I could spend all day at the library and book stores – my local thrift store just opened a used portion in the back – thousands of books – 50 cents for soft covers, hard covers for $1
Protein powders taste like ass!
Bummer about DD, but, glad you caught it early so it can be treated!
I am the same way with protein powders, but, Jay Robb’s are not too bad.
Dinner looks delicious….then again everything you had on Dad’s day did too
I love your blog!
I’ve been thinking about protein shakes for a while, but have no idea what kind to try. I’ll definitely give this one a shot!
All your recipes look awesome, too. Definitely going to check out more of them.
Good luck with your little one! Glad it was an easy fix. (:
Sorry to hear about your little girl, but so grateful that she will be okay.
Your food all looks so good!
Poor little girl – glad you caught it early!
I am not a huge fan of protein powders, they all taste so chalky to me. And I don’t love the aftertaste.
Did you take out/buy any exciting books?
So glad you caught it early! boo!
I’ve never had protein powders… sorry!
Your “leftovers” look amazing and fresh!!! I heart healthy leftovers.
So so glad you got her in to the doc and they recognized it! I too have heard some scary stories.
i’ve tried a number of protein powders…most are still just a so so thing for me
I’m so glad you caught it in time! My cousin was diagnosed with Lyme a while back but she’s getting married in less than two weeks and has decided to postpone medication until after the honeymoon. I guess it’s pretty brutal??
I just finished up a 2 week round of antibiotics (amoxicillin being one of them) and I would highly recommend taking probiotics, in pill or liquid form too. Saved my stomach lining!
