Not A Pretty Sight
I’m starting to like this sleeping -in business.
And I’m liking oatmeal! I’m actually starting to crave it! I guess all these years of reading Kath’s blog has finally rubbed off on me! Today’s mix…
- 1/3 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1/3 cup water
- 1/3 cup plain soymilk
- dash salt
- 1/2 banana
- 2 tsp. powdered egg whites
- 2 tbsp. PB2
- 1/2 of Gone Nutty Frozen Banana , sliced
Not so pretty, but definitely tasty and filling!
The daughters had friends over, so most of my day was spent indoors cleaning or tending to the kids. I caught a little TV in the interim and became mesmerized by The Rachel Zoe Project on Bravo! Ever watch that? She is an amazing stylist with an unbelievable eye for fashion. I came upon the realization after watching the show that I have no fashion sense whatsoever! I think I used to at one time, but that was back in the 80’s and well, fashion wasn’t at it’s finest in those days! I used to be obsessed with clothes and would try to never wear the same outfit twice! Now, I’m lucky if I get out of my sweats… or Mom Jeans…
I digress. Back to food…
Lunch was another “unsightly but good” meal …
A Cuban Black Bean Patty Melt with Laughing Cow and guacamole!
Such a creamy combination. And cherries are just spectacular right now!
Afternoon hit and I was needing a snack. Craving more fruit, I made a Peach Split! A play on a banana split – a white peach topped with plain nonfat Chobani, blueberries and sliced almonds…
I heart peaches
I morphed some leftovers into dinner tonight. Pile ‘o green…
*(edited to add) Forgot to tell you what was in that mix!
- 1/2 block diced pan-fried Nasoya Lite Firm Tofu
- baby bok choy
- leftover Summer Squash Salad
The husband got scared when he saw it and the daughters feigned illness so as not to have to eat it.
It was all for me, though, I just like to torture them
Of course, I had back up – breakfast for dinner. Sighs of relief were heard around the world.
And a new nightly ritual is beginning…decaf because I’m liking sleeping…
I’m off to jump on the trampoline!!!
Have a great day, everyone!
What was your biggest fashion “don’t” from the past? Mine was ginormous shoulder pads! I always tried to make my shoulders look bigger to balance out my hips, but I just ended up looking like a linebacker most times! Aaaahhhh, the 80’s…

Biggest fashion faux pax ??? Can we say light blue courdory platform shoes ??? I graduated in 1976, and before they made women look like linebackers with shoulder pads, they put us on platform shoes. I think the idea was to hobble us so we could not get out and fight for the ERA ( equal rights amendment) or something !
Gotta try that peach sundae !!
I love that you’re going to jump on a trampoline. Panchos…they were so hot a few years ago and by the time I got one, they were out of style. haha
I’m ignoring your question today. Don’t want to dredge up horrid memories – you summed it up perfectly. Hideous!!
You’ve really embraced this oatmeal thing. I am a real oatmeal lover, so its been fun to watch you come around!! Don’t know exactly where you are, if you have access to Aldi grocery stores, they have fantastic prices on the large boxes of oatmeal, both regular and quick cook. For me, I’m talking $1.67 per box at Aldi vs. $2.49 or more everywhere else. Between eating and using it in recipes, I go through a lot of oatmeal, so that is a significant savings for me.
Decaf at night…hmmm, that might be a new evening treat for me. I LOVE coffee but only drink it once a day in the morning because any more than that and I don’t sleep. Good idea.
I think your food always looks fantastic.
I really think I’m going to try the cuban black bean patties. I love and may be slightly obsessed with bean patties.
I just can’t eat hot oatmeal in the summer! Good for you for embracing some new foods.
Oh, yes shoulder pads, I do remember them, what were we thinking?
I want that bean patty. NOW.
Also, my biggest faux pax was the split level bang. You know, curl 3/4 up into a stand up wall vertical to the forehead, curl 1/4 down. Ack.
It’s a tie between a boy’s bowl haircut or my stretchy stirrup pants. UGGGHH.
I think your dinner looks fantastic!
Your peach split looks delicious!!! I would definitely have to say the teased bangs with frizzy curly hair! I still cringe when I see those pictures!
I saw part of a Rachel Zoe show at the gym yesterday (I still miss cable t.v. at home!!!!!!).
Like you, I also wore insane shoulder pads. And everything way too big and boxy… Oh, and who could forget the pink leg warmers…
Fashion faux pas? Shoulder pads, leg warmers, headbands (OMG, what what I thinking??), feathered hair.
Guess what decade I was in high school in? LOL!
I find Rachel Zoe so annoying but I love that show! I too have no fashion sense, I wear a solid color shirt and a solid color skirt to work every day, and then I have solid color shorts and tank tops to wear after work. I like it, but some days I wish I was a bit more adventurous.
I used to wear all black, long skirts and dresses with big huge boots and a ton of jelly bracelets. Yeah, I was pretty cool!
I think I wore every awful thing there was in the 80’s. I think the biggest was the legging with the elastic strap on the bottom, I wore them with everything …need to go back in time and tell myself DON’T DON’T DO IT!!
You’re right, some of those picture don’t look too great, but when you say what’s in them, it makes more sense. Then they become appetizing!
I love the “Peach Split” snack idea, it’s right up my alley. I can’t believe I never thought of it! It’s super pretty too
.
Oatmeal IS addictive- once you start eating it, you start craving it and there are so many tasty ways to fix it. I love the peach split idea!
that is one thing I’m excited to explore once I lose this weight…fashion that is. Right now I just buy what fits and looks okay. I can’t wait to have more choices and actually pick a style I love.
I went and read your Mom Jeans post and it made me LOL! Your pouty face was too cute & funny! Your Mom and Gram made up a yummy St. Patty’s day feast. Do you have and are you willing to share their recipe for the soda bread? It looks perfect and the one time I tried to make soda bread it was a disaster. P.S. Your meals may not be too pretty, but I’d eat them, and the cherries are gorgeous at least–I have cherry envy! Need to get me some.
