Some Like It Hot

Storms are wreaking havoc ‘round here between driving rain, minor flooding and power outages.  I headed over to the gym and they had packed up shop due to a transformer blowout from the thunderstorms!

So instead, I came home and took my New Balance Rock & Tone Shoes for a spin around the neighborhood…

IMG_7169

I’ve been wearing these to the gym on my strength training days and a few times around the house, but haven’t really taken them for a “walk.”  They are very comfortable and I was surprised at how much tightness I did feel in my calves and hamstrings.  I have been skeptical about these tone-up type shoes that have come on the market and leery about their claims of burning extra calories and firming up certain areas.  But, I could feel these doing the work.  I don’t know if that goes away over time as your body gets used to them.  In any event, they are suitable for walking and wearing to the gym so I’m willing to stick with them !

I walked (and hopefully, toned!) for an hour,( beat the rain!) then came in for cooling off and breakfast…

Ezekiel cinnamon raisin english muffin with a schmear of natural peanut butter.  I should own stock in Ezekiel :)

I really didn’t want to go out and play in the rain today.  Yes, some say I might melt.   So the only melting going on was lunch – a Cholula Turkey Patty Melt

IMG_7174

When I grilled up a bunch of turkey burgers the other day, I experimented with some flavors…

Cholula Turkey Burgers

  • 1 1/2 tbsp. Cholula chili garlic sauce
  • 1/4 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp. cumin
  • 6 oz. ground turkey breast

Makes 2 patties.

For the patty melt, I layered 2 slices of Ezekiel bread with a Cholula Turkey Burger,  cheese, 1 tbsp. guacamole and 1 tbsp. fresh salsa, then grilled it in a pan with 1 tsp. olive oil.

Lots of savory flavor with a side of sweet melon…

I was fighting the afternoon munchies.  Totally out of boredom and raindom!  I dug into some Triscuits x2…

IMG_6720

I was worried that Triscuits might turn into the new “Cheez-its” for me, but I seem to have better control over these than the orange evil things.

Dinner was orange – but the good kind!  The sky cleared up just in time for grilling Buffalo Chicken.  I tossed the chicken breasts in Frank’s red hot sauce and a bit of olive oil and grilled them in a flash.  On the side, I made a Blue Cheese Sauce for dipping using the new Laughing Cow flavor…

In a small bowl, I mixed a wedge with about 1 tbsp. skim milk and nuked for a few seconds until the cheese melted fully.

It was a delicious dipping sauce for the Buffalo Chicken!

IMG_7176

For veg, I made up a Carrot, Avocado and Red Onion Salad – just carrot “ribbons” using a vegetable peeler, diced avocado and slivers of red onion dressed with evoo, red wine vinegar, s + p …

A cool side for the spicy chicken!  I’m loving these non-lettuce salads :)

I stole a tiny Dove dark chocolate square from little daughter’s room when putting her to bed.  Sweet dreams :)

Have a great day, everyone!

Are you a spicy food fan?

I got a pair of Trim Fit shoes at Target- a kind of knock off brand of the New Balance,Sketchers and so forth brands. They DO work your glutes pretty well, and they give real comfort to back and knee injuries. I don’t know if they burn more calories, but they do seem to work to tone the muscles at the back of the legs and shift your posture into a healthy alignment. Once you get used to the weird sensations from the soles, they are a pretty good shoe !
Spicy food- HATE it !!!!

I L O V E spicy foods. Mo’ hotter is mo’ better, in my mind. Thus, my affinity for Thai food. Sooooo good.

The buffalo chicken looks YUMMY–and the salad…beautiful! So pretty. I’ll have to try that.

I just bought that Blue Cheese stuff, haven’t tried it yet, though! I’m NOT a spicy food fan, although I do love a little wasabi every once in a while…

I love spicy food. I eat jalapenos plain at movie theaters and salsa by the spoon. (My parent’s say its because at 2 years old my grandma fed me onions and pickles – I guess I got use to the extreme tastes (sour, spicy) at an early age. :-D

Love spicy food. Love non-lettuce salads. Envy your ability to have just a few crackers… :-)

I love your blue cheese dipping sauce! I haven’t seen the blue cheese laughing cow cheese; I’ll have to look for it! I think it could add lots of flavor to all sorts of “creamy” sauces… :)

And yes, I LOVE spicy foods, but hubby can’t handle it too well (which is funny since he is Korean, and Korean food is often spicy….).

i just cant get into laughing cow cheese! none of them appeal to me very much. i dont think i’d be into the blue cheese, but maybe i need to dig around for some new flavors — it’s such a good option!!

14 Biz { 07.15.10 at 1:11 pm }

I didn’t know LC made a blue cheese one! What a great idea for your chicken dip.

My husband believes I have not tastebuds left because I’ve burned them all off with all the spicy shit I eat!

15 JourneyBeyondSurvival { 07.15.10 at 5:39 pm }

YES!!! I love spicy food. Not the rock and tones though. I’m worried that they’ll hurt me permanently. ;D

16 Tami { 07.15.10 at 8:22 pm }

I have not seen the new flavors of LC cheese yet.

I have not seen too many people wearing those shoes around. Thanks for the review!

Oh yes I do like some spicy food! Mexican food is my favorite!

I LOVE spicy dishes, the hotter the better! Mmm mm. The buffalo chicken looks like something my hubby would enjoy, must try it soon. Sadly, I don’t see the LC Blue Cheese here in Canada yet. :(

20 Graze With Me { 07.16.10 at 5:29 pm }

I love spicy foods. I’m starting to become well known for my hot sauce affinity. Every time we go out with friends, they always make sure the hot sauce bottle is directly in front of me. And full. :)

Lettuce-less salads are my favorite. Lettuce can be so boooring.

21 Elaine { 07.17.10 at 5:05 pm }

I like spicy to a point-but it loses its appeal if my mouth feels like it’s on fire after eating. Your buffalo chicken looks tasty, but I couldn’t find a recipe for it on your blog. Please consider posting this. Thanks!
