Let’s Get It Started

Today marked the start of half marathon training!  I was both excited and nervous.  It’s been a month since my last run and I always worry that I might forget how for some reason!

The Plan

I decided to follow Hal Hidgon’s Half Marathon schedule.  I like my run days being Tuesday, Thursday and a long run on Sunday.  I also plan to stick with the Galloway Method of intervals  throughout training.  It has worked well for me in the last year and so far, I have been able to remain injury-free and keep my hip/IT Band issues from flaring up.  I am going to be diligent about stretching and using my foam roller during training to keep issues at bay, too.

On the alternate days, I am going to make good use of Exercise TV and all the videos that it has to offer!  I’m really enjoying working out at home and I’ll never get bored with the variety of workouts available! :)

~~~~~~
The schedule called for a 3 mile run, so I woke up super early, got on  my clothes and chomped on half of  a banana to fuel up…
I arrived at the trail, powered up my tunes and set off.  Well, I kind of took off!  I started running faster than I normally do ( which is still a snail’s pace!) and had a hard time getting into a rhythm.  At first, I didn’t realize it was because I was running faster.  I thought it was due to being out of practice.  At a mile and a half in, it dawned on me that I needed to slow down a bit.  Once I did, I found my natural groove.  It’s slow, but I’m more steady that way and able to git ‘er done…
Just noticed my GYMBOSS is taking a beating!
I came home to a quick breakfast of Orange Date Baked Oatmeal Bar from the freezer stash…
I got hungry for lunch fairly early.  Mainly because I wanted to dig into these…
I thought about making these the only the main attraction, but decided on this instead…
Hummus, mashed avocado and cucumber slices on toasted Ezekiel bread. YUM!
Along with hummus chips and carrots…
Hummus chips can be added to the crackilicious list :)
Dinner was defrosted Salisbury Steaks with Rich Brown Gravy
with leftover roasted sweet potato wedges and broccoli…
I’ve been missing broccoli!  Sure ate my fill tonight.  Reunited and it feels so good…
Have a great day, everyone!
Are you a hummus fan?
Your half training sounds a lot like mine! Except my race is in October so I’m a bit farther along. :) I’m excited for you! I am always afraid I’m going to forget how to run too! Glad you didn’t.
I can’t wait to make those salisbury steaks. I think I’m going to have to do that soon.
I am a big hummus fan. I was reading another blog that suggested mixing your tuna with hummus instead of mayo and I love it. I have been buying my hummus because I ran out of tahini but picked up a jar the other day so I will be making my own soon. I can’t get enough of it.
That is a brilliant idea! I’m going to try tunamummus :)
Good luck with the training! Sounds like you have a good plan!
I LOVE hummus, but my gallstones can’t handle it. So I stay away…
Happy Wednesday!
I love hummus. One of my favorites is Trader Joes eggplant hummus. Good luck with your training.
Thank-you for all the info on the half-marathon training. I recently trained for and ran my first 5k, and am working towards an 8k in October. I plan to train for a half in the spring, so this is really helpful! Good luck with the training!
I love hummus! It’s one of those things I almost always have on hand. My current favorites are: 1) Sabra roasted red pepper hummus at Costco and 2) Lemon-garlic-dill hummus (home made).
Good luck to you, too, Tyla!
I haven’t gotten into the plain hummus yet although I’m willing to try! I love roasted red pepper hummus and my cousin gave me a recipe to make it.
Oh I’m so excited! Good luck training for the half marathon! Wish I could run it for you! I am thinking about trying to run a half marathon in different cities just for fun so maybe one of these times, I’ll come on out there and run one! :)
I’m still trying to figure out if I want to train for a full marathon but I’m so so so so so so scared! So I don’t know yet.
I just might take you up on running it FOR me! LOL!
Hope you come out here and run one day :)
Love hummus! I’m wanting some right now. Maybe stuffed in an egg white?
Seems that running fever is in the air. I guess because fall is making its way back. Here’s to a happy running season/training injury free!
I might just have to give it another try too. :)
I forgot about our egg-white stuffed with hummus addiction!
Good luck with your training!! I love hummus, especially with Stacey’s pita chips. I definitely have to just put my serving in a bowl because I could definitely eat all of them. I don’t like potato chips but pita chips are my favorite!
Marisa Reply:
I’m with ya on the pita chips :)
No Jen!!! Say it ain’t so!!!! Okay, try this recipe for homemade hummus…
It’s made without tahini which may be why you don’t like hummus. I have become fond of it over the years, but at first, I didn’t like the flavor tahini gave the hummus. Try it without – I think you’ll fall in love :)
