Frozen

Hello, frozen tundra…

Yes, I was crying, frowning and making weird faces.  And yes, my face is frozen that way for forever more.

What the heck was I thinking?!

Well, I was thinking I should be at home sitting by a warm fire with coffee and a plate of cookies

Nooooooooooo!  I promise this will not be another post about cookies! :)

Anyway, I tortured myself in the frigid air and knocked out a sluggish 3 miler.  I haven’t run in over a week and my stride was a little off-kilter.  I just couldn’t seem to get in the groove with my breathing or my steps.  I think I was just too concentrated on the cold and wanting to be done!  I stuck with it though and finished up in 40 minutes using 3:1 intervals…

After that run, I needed something to defrost!  I headed home for a cozy breakfast.

Hot off the press…

With an egg and cheese on an Ezekiel english muffin…

Aaaaah, that’s better.

Unfortunately, I had to go back out to Antarctica to run a bunch of errands.  I’m still working on those last minute gifts!  I’m the worst at Christmas shopping!

Defrosting was necessary again, so I opted for soup at lunch.  I picked up this cool new frozen soup during my last BJ’s Wholesale shopping trip…

The ingredients looked pretty decent with the exception of sodium!  Wowza!  But, it’s standard for Chinese food.

Endorsed by this guy, it’s got to be good…

IMG_0563

Five minutes in the micro and the kitchen smelled like Chinese take-out!

To bulk it up a bit, I added some pre-cooked shrimp to the bowl…

IMG_0694

This soup is fantastic!  The broth is tasty, the wontons are fresh tasting and firm, and the greens (sorrel) are delicious.  Paired with some store-bought eggrolls, this would make for a great Chinese food night!

A while later, I snacked on some Cuties…

Fa la la la la.

Dinner was so easy thanks to my Mom!  Leftover Chicken Piccata and Gram’s Green Beans (made by Mom) from our weekend dinner at their house…

IMG_0703

I love when Mom cooks and I just eat!

So, I’m feeling better about my food intake today.  I finally got off the cookie eating train and had more substantial, healthier meals.  The weekend was crazy busy with holiday activities and right before the weekend started, I got in a car accident due to some icy conditions.  No one got hurt thankfully; just a minor fender bender, but it turned into a stressful situation afterward that did involve junk eating instead of dinner.  Funny thing though, I don’t want it to last.  In my pre-Loser days, I would have relished the opportunities to keep eating a bunch of junk.  Now, I wake up every day wanting a healthy meal.  It’s not always perfect, but it’s progress as far as my mindset is concerned!

Stay warm and have a great day, everyone!

Are you a Chinese food fan?  What’s your favorite dish?

I feel your pain! It takes a lot of motivation just to get myself out the door to drive to the gym to workout let alone run outside.

Way to go!!

I sure am missing the gym with this weather! UGH!

Hi Marisa – We just had Chinese over the weekend – hot and sour soup is my favorite and our Chinese place does it oh so well !! i especially love the tofu in it.
I ran over the weekend and what was frozen on me were my thighs – i seriously couldn’t feel them! but i had my trusty running gloves, hat and fleece so i was only frozen in my mid section! have a happy christmas!

My body wasn’t as bad as my face! I’ll have to get one of those bank robber face masks to run outside! LOL! Merry Christmas to you and your family, too, Kristen!

I love Chinese food. Peanut Chicken is my fave- but we don’t eat it very often anymore. I’m glad you’re ok after your fender bender- driving is no fun this time of year! :(

I’m still too scared to brave running outside in the cold- will you do it again? :)

Marisa Reply:

I might do it again. I’ll have to take a swig of whiskey first and wear the aforementioned bank robber face mask!!!! HA!

SOOO glad the “bang” was a non-injury fender bender. Still…shakes you up!!! Glad you are ok! And my hats off to you for going out in the cold for a run!!! I bow at your frozen feet!!

Marisa Reply:

Thanks, Roz. Yeah, it was stressful, especially dealing with the estimates and insurance stuff!

Brrr! I can’t believe you actually got out in that kind of cold. You’re dedicated!

My favorite Chinese food is tangerine beef or lo mein noodles or sesame chicken or general tso chicken or sweet n sour……I think I just like Chinese. :)

Me too, Kel!!

Sorry about the accident. Glad everyone is okay. And glad that you want a healthy meal! :)

I love Chinese food (but haven’t had it in forever). I love spicy eggplant!

Marisa Reply:

Oooh, I’ve never had spicy eggplant!!!

We are not that cold only about 40, but we have had rain everyday for the last week, everything is soggy. Favorite chinese food orange chicken. I have been downing the cuties too.

Marisa Reply:

I’m loving these cuties, too!!!

I did a 2 mile walk for local charity last weekend. It was 16 degrees. Stupid, stupid, stupid idea. :) At least the money went to a good cause.

That shrimp wonton soup looks incredible. I’ll have to check our stores for some.

Marisa Reply:

LOL! Well, you are a very kind soul to do that for charity, Katie!

OMG Girl, you are tough!!!! I would never have had the guts to get outside and exercise in that weather!!! You go girl!!!

So sorry to hear about your fender bender!!! Stressful situations make me turn to comfort food and Sesame Chicken happens to fall into that category for me. With friend rice and an egg roll it’s a calorie and fat whopper!!!!

I feel like you did, I ate out a lot last week and this week and I just want to make some healthy food!!!

Hope you have a great holiday if I don’t get a chance to stop by again!

Marisa Reply:

I feel the same way if I eat out to much which is usually when we are on vacation. Then, I can’t wait to get home and make a meal!

Almond Chicken! God job getting back to healthy meals. Sugar really makes me feel awful, maybe that is a good thing. If it made me feel good I couldn’t give it up!

Marisa Reply:

Almond chicken sounds awesome!
Sugar makes me feel terrible, too, Tami! I feel so sluggish if I have to much now.

I love Chinese food! Unfortunately, my favorite dish is cashew chicken which isn’t a selection particularly conducive to weight loss. ;) On the flip slide, I adore Cuties and I’m so glad they’re back in season! I’ve been noshing on them all week. :)

It looks really cold outside. Brrrr.

I love Chinese food, certain things. Nothing that’s slimy. But yeah, the sodium gets me every time!! Great job on the run. I draw the line at 30 degrees!

Chinese food…love it. But I always just want to keep eating anything and everything after eating. My favorite is Beef and broccoli or pepper steak.

Great for you Marisa! I’ve been missing running outside! I ran the other day on the treadmill at the gym but I hate doing that so much. I love running outside! Darn cold and snow and ice! I can’t do it right now!
