A Training Plan
Such a slow moving day today! The daughters have been sick, so there’s been lots of lounging in pj’s; myself included!
In an effort to keep the sickness from attacking me, I’m spraying Lysol like a banshee and eating well
Breakfast started it off with an open-faced egg white omelet with turkey sausage and cheese (5 PP)…
Lunch was a big bowl ‘o green…
This Creamy Asparagus Soup is delicious! Served with a simple turkey wrap – 2 oz. turkey, lettuce and wasabi mustard rolled in a La Tortilla Factory tortilla…
A satisfying 7 PP lunch…
I had a nice treat in the afternoon. Veronica submitted these Double Chocolate Banana Muffins for the buttermilk BSI challenge a couple of weeks ago and I had to make them…
Each standard sized muffin works out to 5 PP. They are light and chocolaty. The daughters are loving them, too!
Despite the cold weather, the sunshine was making me want to grill. A summertime bbq was the theme!
Burgers (96% lean) with 2 % cheese on whole wheat buns (8 PP), baked fries (4 PP) and pineapple…
Eaten while dressed in two sweatshirts, flannel sweatpants and singing , “Summa, summa, summertime” between bites.
I’m finishing the evening mapping out my strength training plan. I know I keep saying that, but I really am DOING it !! The problem has been that I can’t seem to find the right fit. I’m probably making this way harder than necessary, but I feel like I need to fully understand this whole weight lifting thing. I tried to delve into the slow weight training movement, however, after a few workouts, I realized that I don’t have the patience for this type of workout (or a lot of other things – HA!). Sad, but true.
Anyhow, I came upon this book in the library…
It’s EXCELLENT for a confused beginner like me! Tosca Reno takes a basic approach in explaining weight training, then guides you through the different exercises, showing proper form and giving tips for a successful workout.
I just got to the best part…
Off to formulate my plan!
Really!
I mean it!
Have a great day, everyone!
How many times a week do you strength train?

Those muffins look delicious. Oh so chocolatey!
Good luck with the new training plan and hope your daughters feel better soon!
Good for you! I know you can do it. I’ve always wanted to get into lifting, try to tone up these flabby arms a bit, but just never seem to take that last step. I used the machines for a while at the gym, but I’d much rather be running. THAT’S MY PROBLEM!
Asparagus soup sounds so good! I like your dinner; fresh pineapple rocks.
Ideally, I’d strength train 3 days a week, but I am not consistent. At all.
My “strength training” consists of going to Muay Thai 2-3 times a week. I have tried every which way but loose to develop, like, and stick to a traditional ST program (with free weights) and I just can’t. Don’t like it, won’t do it. So I’m better off going after the body weight strength exercise provided by Muay Thai.

I’ve never heard of Muay Thai! Sounds interesting, Helen!
I love strength training and do 2 intense sessions a week. I also do Lunges, squats and sit-ups 4 times a week.
I worked with a trainer for 6 months or so. Since we were on different time schedules, he would email me a different routine each week, and teach me the necessary things when I saw him once a week. Of all the things we tried, my favorite, and continued go-to routine is : push, pull, legs, abs. Do a move that involves pushing the weight away, like a chest press. Then a pull — like bent-over row. Then a leg exercise like lunges or squats, then crunches or reverse crunches. It was a nice simple framework, and I was free to substitute exercises in to fit my mood and energy level. But to this day I still need an exercise buddy to force me into doing pushups and lunges
Good luck to you!
I used to lift weights four times per week, but lately it’s been only twice per week. I just enjoy yoga and other mind calming workouts more at the moment… I do some push ups, lunges and squats every day however. It only takes a few minutes, and it does make a difference.
Have fun creating your program!
I am not much for slow weight training either. I lift 3x a week.
I love Tosca! That looks like a very useful book. I try to strength train 3x a week but I have been doing a lot of mixed cardio.stength sessions lately.
answer to your question…not nearly enough! lol work in progress.
I have those muffins on my to make list as well…they looked so wonderful! chocolate and banana = LOVE.
Yummo food-o.
I’m like you: I want to know everything about ST before I actually do it. Same with everything really.
Looks like a good book to help get started!
Seriously, I have been so bad about ST lately. Exercise in general, to be honest.
You go girl! You’re going to be one hot running weight lifter.
Strength training has always been a problem for me too. I got to a class once or twice a week at the gym but would love to have a better plan. Need to do it at least 3 times a week! Looking forward to hearing about it.
Good luck on the new training plan Marisa!!! You’ll be great! And fingers crossed you don’t catch what your daughters have! Stay well!!!
I have gone back to 3 times a week with lifting as I am lightening up the weights.
Another book that is very helpful is Brad Schoenfelds’ Body sculpting for Women. He goes through the stages of training from first starting out to more advanced programs and what to work on.
The real key is proper form and consistency, though.

Thanks, Lori. I’ll check that one out, too!
So glad you liked the muffins! You’re making me crave them–time to break out my frozen bananas!
Strength training is the type of workout I now prefer, but I don’t push myself as hard as I should so that may be why I like it so much. lol! I try to do 3 strength training sessions and 3 cardio sessions a week on alternating days with one day off, but I haven’t done any working out in two weeks, except for walking the dog. boooo
