Me and Gymbob
Let’s talk about the bizarre shape of my head for a minute, shall we? In an effort to contain my Bride of Frankenstein hair while running, I put on this headband (pardon the gray, it’s color time) …
But, headbands do not stay on my head because I have this bulbous top, but flat bottom. They always slide up the back of my pancake head!
Ironically, the headband was called Stay Put, too.
Fail.
In other non-deformity related news, guess who’s my new running partner???…
My DAD!!!!
He’s always been an avid exerciser, but not really a runner. Lately, he’s been hammering it out on the treadmill and told me he’s been running almost 3 miles in 30 minutes! Holy Speed Demon!
I told him he should do the upcoming 5K with me. He was interested, but wanted to give running outdoors a whirl first. So, he and I met this morning at my usual trail and set off doing 3:1 intervals. He stuck with my pace the whole time, although I’m certain I was holding him back from going faster!
We finished up at 2.45 miles….
Way to go, Dad! I definitely see a 5K in his future
And he wants a “Gymbob” now! I kept saying, “GYMBOSS, Dad, GYMBOSS.” LOL!
Before meeting up with Dad, I had a fun breakfast thanks to this new find…
Pretzel BAGELS! Who can resist that combo?!
I added the salt to make the bagel a “pretzel” and served it with a fried egg ( 5 PP)…
So good and doughy!
The bagels taste exactly like a soft pretzel. This is a bad thing for me since I LOVE soft pretzels. Luckily, the family likes them as well, so they should be gone soon.
For lunch, I brought back the salad kit . In the mix…
- romaine lettuce
- 2 oz. leftover bbq chicken (from the weekend)
- 1/4 cup black beans
- 1/4 cup lite 3 cheese blend
- 1/3 cup chopped carrots
- 2 slices center cut bacon
- 2 tbsp. Hidden Valley light ranch dressing
A big and crunchy 8 PP…
Afternoon snack – a deep Green Monster (1 PP)…
Dinner was a family favorite – Chicken Cutlets- along with the not so favorite sweet potatoes and broccoli rabe (13 PP)…
I roasted the sweet potato slices on a sheet pan like this…
then topped them with cheddar cheese and ran them under the broiler…
What’s not to like?! *shoots daggers at family*
More for me!
Have a great day, everyone!
Are you a headband wearer?

Your headband shot made me laugh. I’m with you. I don’t have a head for bands either. The only ones I am able to wear and do when my hair starts getting on my nerves, are those thick wide terrycloth ones. I think they’re actually called sweatbands but they work for me and serve two purposes, to keep the hair out of my face and to keep the sweat from rolling down into my eyes. Gross, I know, but it works.
That’s so awesome that your dad runs with you
Thanks for sharing about the Thomas’ pretz-a bagels, they look yummy. Also, what a genius idea about the sweet potatoes, I usually just cook mine in the microwave similar to a baked potato. I think I would leave out the cheese because I just like mine with Brummels & salt. I think your problem with headbands is not your head size silly, it’s all that hair you have!
I am not a headband wearer because I have very short hair.
Interesting way in grilling the sweet potato – I usually cut them up length wise. Going to do it like this next time.
That is so nice that your dad is still able to run with you on his age – mine can’t anymore
I for one think that those sweet potatoes look devine!!
I desperately want to be able to wear headbands because I have whispy hairs in my face all the time but I have the same problem! I put them on and by the time I head out the door they have already worked their way off the back of my head.
Those potatoes look amazing. Can I come live with you and you can feed me until I feel like cooking again?
That’s so awesome that you got to run with your Dad and now I must find those pretzel bagels, they look awesome as does your salad! NOM! I can’t wear headbands either they always slide off, so don’t feel bad! LOL!
I have the same problem with headbands!! I have found bondibands – they are the only band that stays on my head – where I put it!! And it really does help with the sweat issue.
I LOVE that your dad is running with you – and speed demon is right!!! Does this mean he will be running in Brig with us?!?!
HOLY SWEET POTATO YUMMINESS!!!! You can feed me and Q – we LOVE sweet potatoes!

We’ll definitely have to get him to come with us!
Love the headband shot!!! And the fact you are running with your Dad!!! FUN!!!! OOOH…wish we had those pretzel bagels up here. Who knows, maybe they’ll make their way up over the border eventually. As for headbands, I definitely use them, but the kind that look like “Alice in Wonderland” more than the full around the head ones.
They do wonders for me on a “bad hair day”. Have a good day Marisa! Hope your hair has a good day too!!

LOL!! I tell my hair to have a good day all the time, but it NEVER listens!!!!
Two comments:
(1) Grey hair ain’t so bad, Darlin’. See link: musementsandamusements.blogspot.com/2011/03/clairol-loreal-revlon-not.html and
(2) As an alternative to keep your hair back try a “do-rag” by H.A.D. instead. I bought mine at a motorcycle show and they work wonders for keeping my hair out of my face. Check ‘em out at: http://www.had-wear.com/196/en/home.had. Cheers!
BTW, Marisa, can you explain or point me to your blogs that explain (a) the intervals you use with your Gymboss and (b) what the Bymboss actually is? Thanks!

Great idea with the do rag, Daphne!
I use the Galloway Method of run/walk intervals. You can check out his site for more info: http://www.jeffgalloway.com
As for the GYMBOSS, you can check out this previous post on why I love it : http://www.loserforlife.com/2010/05/its-back/
I couldn’t run without it!!
I can’t wear a headband to save my life, they just ride up at the back too, plus they irritate me, so it’s just got to be a ponytail for me.
Love the look of those sweet potatoes! I got to my goal weight last Friday but am already back up 2lb :-/ Need to start posting again and tracking pts.
So glad your Dad is running with you, that must be fun

No worries, Denise! You’re still in goal range!!! You’ll have that off in no time!
BONDIBANDS are your answer!! They totally stay on my weird-shaped head too. I seriously love them. I found a code out there that makes them only 5 dollars instead of 8.
#1 – Headbands ALL do the exact same thing on me, and I’ve tried a ton of them. I’ve never tried Bondi Bands or that sort of thing because I’m too cheap to invest in something more expensive just to discover it slips off too.
#2 – I must immediately locate, purchase, and consume those pretzel bagels. I LOVE the pretzel baguette from Whole Foods, but I eat the entire thing in one sitting. Hopefully those will help with portion control.
#3 – YOUR DAD IS AWESOME!!!
Love that your dad is your new running partner!!! Have fun!!!
LOVE the sweet potatoes!! Not a head band wearer. I have a lot of hair and it just bothers my head
I have the same issue with headbands! My sister-in-law is always wearing one, looking all cute and I just can’t get’em to stay put either!!
Those sweet ‘taters look incredible…cheddar cheese on top. Perfection!
OK, until you said that was “gray” I thought it was running sweat. See, you shouldn’t point that stuff out lol! It must be truly wonderful to have your Dad running with you and Gymbob. And ITA about the taters – what’s not to like?

I’m not sure what’s worse – the gray or running sweat! LOL!
I love your blog! I love everything about it. You are such an inspiration and thank you so much for all the pictures you post. Seeing such healthy food that looks so amazing helps! It actually makes me hungry.

Thank you so much, Marlo!!!
Those headbands do the same thing to me. I actually love the look of it…I also envy women who wear a pony tail. My head hurts SO bad from it that I tend to keep my hair short so I’m not in pain when I do feel the need to pull it all back. lol boo
OMG I’m gonna pretend I did not see that pretzel bagel! WOW! lol
Dinner looked delish! I wouldn’t complain at that!
oh! & Go Daddy Go!
hehe very cool!
Haha! I have a similar headband issue! Fail! I don’t wear one but would like to!
Way to go Marisa’s Dad!!
Wow those pretzel bagels look INCREDIBLE. Your dad rocks!!
Those potatoes look really good! As does the pretzel bagel.
I so wish I could get my dad to do any kind of exercise! (and quit smoking…)
I used tohave the same problems with headbands, until I tried BIC bands….check them out on ETSY….ran a marathon this past weekend and it didn’t move at all… I wear them all day now, not just when I run….they have really cool prints and patterns. I also like Bondi bands,
but I wanted something thinner….

Thanks, Kara. I’ll check those out.
oh my GOODNESS! I’m always chewing on fresh baked sweet potato slices, but never like this. Fantastic idea! I get happy every time I come by to visit your blog. squeeeee!!!!
Yep, need to find those Thomas’ bagels – stat! I am really starting to like sweet potatoes Marisa – who knew?! I’ll have to try your method!

Yay for sweet potato lovin’, Biz!
I have the exact same problem with headbands! It drives me nutzo…
And I think my world just changed knowing that a combination of a pretzel and a bagel exists… I need to track those beauties down, stat!

I found them at Walmart and at Target, Amanda!!
google “sweaty bands” they rock!
Pretzel bagels. I think I just squirted a tear. Sounds binge-worthy.
Ha! Headbands do the EXACT same thing to me.
YAY for dad running with you!! That is so cool. Don’t you love having someone to run with? Makes it more enjoyable. Plus bonus for being some good dad/daughter time.
Awesome that your dad is running with you. Gymbob. Too funny!
I don’t look cute in headbands, but that doesn’t stop me from trying different ones. I have a lot of Bondi Bands – they do stay put, but I don’t look like the young women on their website. Sigh.
LOL and here I thought I was the only one with an alien shaped head that did that to headbands…nice to know there are many of us. Now the real question is…who is going to invent a headband made for US??? lol
Pretzel bagels…oh my. Haven’t seen them yet…I will be on the lookout for them though.
I think it is awesome that you and your dad are running together! Bravo to you both.
I do sometimes wear headbands for working out and when I am putting on my make up. Otherwise I can’t take the pressure of the darn things on my head! Maybe a I have a big head!
I cracked up reading this post. I have the exact same problem with headbands even the “stay put” kind. I have to wear a baseball cap when I run races and I keep ponytail holders everywhere just in case.
Love that your dad called the Gymboss a Gymbob! I think it’s so great that he is running with you.
OMG those sweet potatoes look delicious. They are on my list of things to make this weekend.
Hey there!
Where did you find those pretzel bagels?? They look yummy!!!!

I found them at Walmart and at Target, Veronica!

Thank you, Enz! I never tire of hearing that because no one that I live with thinks that anything I eat looks good! LOL!
Thanks for cheering my Dad on, everyone!
I have the same issue with headbands. I am so jealous of those girls who have the perfect headband heads!
Oh man, my hair/head does the same exact thing with those stupid head bands! I could never wear them. Such a pain. Obviously tons of other women have the same problem! About 2 weeks ago I chopped all my hair off though so, no more worries, ha!
And sweet potatoes with cheese…. that sounds really interesting. Never heard of that combo, hmm. I have a sweet potato on my kitchen counter and shredded cheese in my fridge right now…. I think my pregnant self may just whip this up for lunch tomorrow.
I have the same problem with headbands! I can never seem to keep them on. Like Jen, I’ve switched over to Bondi Bands now because they’re wider and will stay on. Seriously, must.find.pretzel.bagels!
my hair is too fine (the hairpeeps’ word for FREAKIN THIN
) for headbandage.
sad sad sad.
Mahahaaaa.. I try to wear those darn cute headbands as well and they always slowly creep up the back of my head too.. When I was a teenybooper they were great and I used them all the time. Maybe my head is grown with freaking old age.. Hoo Hum….
