Speed Of Light Update
Hi, everyone!!!!!! Sorry things have been quiet here; my little vacation turned into a blogcation, too!
It’s been really nice to spend time with the family, cousins and friends. The daughters have been enjoying their time off and I’m right along with them! When big daughter graduated from 8th grade this year and the actuality of high school was imminent, it truly affected me! I mean, just yesterday, she was a baby. But now… she’s growing up at the speed of light and something about all of that makes me want to capture every moment we have together this summer and never let it end! I know…unrealistic, but I try. ![]()
So, since I haven’t picked up my camera much this past week, I thought I’d give you guys an update on a few things…
- No Sugar – This has been going well! My rules for “no sugar” are basically the same as when I did the No Sugar Experiment . I try to stay away from added refined sugars along with some natural sugars like honey, maple syrup or agave. I don’t get super strict about the whole thing, so if I happen to eat something with those natural sugars in the ingredient list, it’s okay. I try to pay attention to how my body reacts and in general, I’ve found that keeping the added sugar to under 3-5 grams per serving seems to be fine. Any more than that causes the cravings to flare. I really believe this is the way I need to live to keep the cravings from ruling my life. Sometimes it’s hard and I just want to eat a giant hunk of cake, but I know it’s more because some emotion is driving me to want to eat the cake. It’s not REALLY about eating the cake; it’s about what’s eating me. So I’ll need to find a better way to deal with that part, but in the meantime, not reaching for the sugar is a great help!
- Exercise – I exercised like crazy while at the shore! I got in a fun run with Jen and I rode my bike almost every day! My Dad and I even got in our longest single ride of 9 miles! So fun. Besides that, I walked Rocky for close to 3 miles a day, walked back and forth from the beach with the daughters (carrying a cartload of cr@p)and did noodle races in the pool! Sounds like a lot, although there was an equal (okay, probably more) amount of sitting on my rear end on a beach chair, soaking in the sun and staring at the insides of my eyelids.

- Weight Watchers/Weight Loss – Sigh. I haven’t been to a Weight Watchers meeting in almost 2 months. I wasn’t able to make it to my regular meeting time due to various things coming up and now with school out, it’s even less do-able. The other meeting times didn’t suit my schedule either, so I decided to switch to online for the summer. My hope is to get back to regular meetings in the fall; I really do enjoy going! I’m still counting PointsPlus (albeit not as religiously), but I’m also trying to stay in tune with my body, too and make good choices. Weight loss… well, it’s kinda okay??? Since getting back on the “no-sugar” wagon, I have lost 3 lbs. Not dramatic, but more loss than I’ve seen in a while! And I was able to keep it off during vacation, which is very much a first for me! “Slow and Steady” seems to be my motto for the summer. Any loss is a good loss, I always say!
So, that’s what’s doin’ here! My blogging may be a bit sporadic over the next month – again just trying to soak up the fun with the daughters before school hits – then we should all be back to normal.
And growing up at the speed of light. ![]()
I’ll leave you with this yummy “no sugar” tease …
More on that next week!
Have a great day, everyone!
Does your exercise routine change in the warmer months? Mine definitely does! I’ve totally whimped out to running on the treadmill in my air-conditioning ! LOL!

Thanks, Kathleen!
Apparently my exercise routine takes a summer vacation. :/
Going to fix that this week! I think I’m going to go for a bike ride tonight!

I love bike riding in the summer! I usually only get a chance to ride in the summer months; there aren’t many safe bike trails in my area!
Glad all is well with you and the family, Marisa! It sounds like you had a great time at the beach. I’m jealous!

Thanks, Lori! I promise not to tease too long!
Glad you got so much exercise in while on vaca – hey losing 3 pounds while on vacation is a win to me!
I know what you mean about growing up at the speed of light – it was so weird just dropping my daughter off at Chicago’s O’Hare airport and seeing her walk away – when did she become a grown up?
So excited she’s coming home on Sunday!! Enjoy your weekend!

It is flying by, Lori! I can’t believe they’ve already been out of school for a month! Soon we’ll be back to school shopping
I was really glad to see a post from you
I know this may sound creepy, but I worried that when you hadn’t posted it meant things weren’t going so well, but it sounds just the opposite! Congrats on what sounds like a wonderful vacation and being successful on your goals!!!

So true, Shelley! I’m especially loving the biking – something I would NEVER do when I was heavier!
I actually work out less in the summer than any other season. Some people get lazy in winter- I get lazy in summer. The heat sucks my will to live! I HATE being hot!
I’m glad you were able to make the decision the to do online for the summer due to your schedule. You need to do what works for you instead of trying to fit into something and feeling bad.
Summer makes my workouts change a bit. My schedules are busier so I tend to make more excuses. But I have super allergies so I can’t work outside too much which means the heat doesn’t bother me.
I love that you are focusing more on living not blogging…Im joining you in that, too.
